Madrid celebrates the final of its First School Minecraft League

The Community of Madrid has celebrated the final of the I SCHOOL MINECRAFT LIGA, Minemad Competition School. The Minister of Digitization, Miguel López-Valverdehas presided over the decisive day and highlighted the importance of this type of projects for “Promote early vocations, arouse digital talent and demonstrate that well -oriented game can become a powerful educational tool”. Final face -to -face and simultaneous connection from schools
The event held today has gathered about 200 finalist students at the Innovation Center, while the rest of the participants have followed the final day live from their schools through videoconference. In this last test, schoolchildren have had to design and build a headquarters to digitize Madrid, reinterpreting the monument that allowed them to reach the final.
The works presented have been valued both by their technical quality and by the process of research and prior documentation. This methodology has allowed children to better understand the architectural and cultural context of their creations, while developing transverse digital competences.

The participating centers belong to the municipalities of Alcalá de Henares, Aranjuez, Boadilla del Monte, Colmenar Viejo, Getafe, Madrid Capital, Móstoles, Rivas-Vaciamadrid and San Sebastián de los Reyes. In total, 102 teams have been formed, each of them protected by a teacher in charge of guiding students during the creative and learning process.
