Maduro tells Venezuelan migrants that if in the US they don’t want “we want them”

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, said Tuesday that his country is willing to receive Venezuelan migrants who become deported from the United States, where Donald Trump’s administration has said that one of his priorities is to make mass deportations of migrants undocumented.

“We do want them to come back. If they do not want them there, we do want them, with love, and we open our arms, ”Maduro said during a session of the Federal Government Council.

“We do tell our migrants: ‘We want them to come back.’ We want them to come back to be happy here, so that they come to undertake, to work, to build in their land, ”said moments before.

Maduro’s statements occurred just over a week that Trump assumed the US presidency for a new mandate (2025-2029) and that his administration began actions to deport undocumented migrants.

Without evidence, Trump and his officials claim that these people harm the US, affect their economy and increase insecurity. These sayings, the arrests and deportation flights that have already begun have generated tensions between the US and Latin American countries such as Mexico and Colombia.

In January 2024, Venezuela announced that it would end the repatriation flights of Venezuelan migrants from the US, in response to Washington’s decision to reactivate some economic sanctions.

According to the United Nations Organization (UN), some 7.9 million people have emigrated from Venezuela in recent years. While most have been established in Colombia and other Latin American countries such as Peru, Chile or Argentina, others seek to reach the US.
