At 42, Manuel LosadaBoiro Draf, it is much more than a judicial expert. His vital career, marked by unique experiences and personal challenges, has led him to carve a name in the literary world as the author of mystery and suspense, with novels that always carry the seal of Galicia.
“My facet of writer comes from many years”confesses Losada, remembering their school time at the Barcelona school in Pontevedra. There, his professor Marita was the one who discovered her talent and encouraged him to explore poetry. However, his passion was always in mystery, suspense and terror. «When I was a student I introduced me to literary competitions and always won. That gave me confidence to continue writing, ”he says.
Before consecrating as a writer, Losada’s life was linked to the army. With only 18 years, he left his native lane to enlist in Ceuta, and shortly after he was sent to Misiones in Afghanistan, Congo and Lebanon. “Psychologically I was not prepared, and four years later I decided to leave,” he explains.
After his military stage, he formed as an escort, to exercise first in the Basque Country during the last stage of ETA, and then in the protection of victims of gender violence. It was this experience that led him to write his first book, “Without fear of the beast,” a self -help guide designed for those women who could not pay for security services. Although he received recognition from the Royal House, the guide finally did not obtain the expected institutional support in order to have a free dissemination. Shortly after he decided to recover those manuscripts of when he was a young student. Each story, of about 50 folios became novels of about 300 pages. He had just approved his opposition to act as a judicial expert when his literary career took off with “The factory of oblivion”a mystery novel set in Vilaxoán and in the old La Atlántica factory. «It’s curious, because when I published it, I barely sold 1,000 copies in Spain. But a journalist who took the novel to Mexico promoted her there, and became a best seller. The work sold thousands of books, ”consolidating his reputation as a writer.
A massive sale that began selling physically in the lIbrería Waldina de Carril. «The key was that this Mexican journalist spent in Vilagarcía and bought the novel to read on the beach. He reminded him of the suspense and mystery stories of his country and, when he returned I talk about her and it was an unexpected success.
Since then, Losada has published other novels, such as “the mystery of the island of Cortegada” with a much smaller sales volume, but that can not stop its literary incontinence. “I always try that my stories have a connection with Galicia, because it is my land and that is where the stories that I write have happened to me,” he says.
His last work, “the Bank of Carmen”, is a tribute to its current place of residence, Boiro. “In this novel the characters are real, and the neighbors can be recognized in the pages,” he explains. The plot, faithful to its mystery and suspense style, revolves around a group of young people who, after a party night, discover that one of her missing friends after seeing her for the last time sitting in a bank.
For Losada, each novel is a reflection of places and moments that have marked their life. “With Vilagarcía I have a very beautiful link, that’s why I dedicated my first two novels.” Today, with nine published novels and the support of an editorial such as Platero, Manuel Losada, known as the Stephen King of the Aruous estuary, remains faithful to his passion.
