María Corina Machado says she talked with special envoy from Donald Trump in Caracas
Venezuela’s opposition leader María Corina Machado said Monday that she talked with Richard Grenelll, a special envoy from the president of the United States, Donald Trump, during her visit in Caracas, in which she met with Nicolás Maduro, whose third mandate is not recognized by US administration.
“I must tell you that I was aware of this visit before I took place, I was informed, and I also talked with the special envoy of the president of the United States during his visit, he also informed me of the result of it,” said the expendated in a virtual encounter with journalists.
Machado said that the representatives and responsible for “the case of Venezuela” in the Trump government have “huge references” of the situation.
“Including President Donald Trump himself, and thus has been very clear that there is no negotiation here, Maduro can say what he wants for his internal groups that are killing each other,” he added.
The opponent reiterated that Venezuela is “a threat to hemispheric security and for the national security of the United States and I assure you that this is very clear in this administration.”
Trump said on Saturday that the Venezuelan executive agreed to receive in the Caribbean country its citizens who are deported in the US administration campaign and also in charge of transport.
The US president celebrated on Friday the release of six US citizens who were detained in
Venezuela and who returned to the United States on a plane next to Grenell, who during his official visit to Caracas met with Maduro, invested on January 10 by the Chavista National Assembly (An, Parliament) for a third term, after his questioned re -election in July 2024.
The Chavista administration said that Maduro raised some bases to restart bilateral relations, broken since 2019, but Washington said that Grenell’s mission was limited to getting Caracas to accept deportation flights of undocumented migrants and achieve the release of detained Americans.
Trump said he will not allow the purchase of oil to
Venezuela as its predecessor, Joe Biden, who relieved the sanctions scheme with the issuance of licenses to foreign companies, including the American Chevron, to operate in the Caribbean country, which has the largest proven reserves of crude oil.
