Miley Cyrus returns to the top with Something Beautiful, a delight for Hannah Montana fans

For fans of all the life of Miley Cyrus, her ninth studio album will undoubtedly honor her name. It is really Subject Beautiful.
Over the years, Grammy winner has proven to be an unparalleled pop star. She is also a dedicated student of the history of contemporary music and various genres, something that has made clear through her passion for interpreting versions already throughout her diverse discography (so that no one forgets her 2020 conceptual album, Plastic Heartsinspired by glam rock).
In Subject BeautifulCyrus shows that he feels in his sauce when he firmly clings to those multiple identities, weaving an ingenious mixture of pop, rock, electronics, disc and even funk, as in the moving and heartbreaking hymn of the album, Easy Lover.

Most of the Cyrus album is composed of catchy melodies that evoke ABBA; End of the world has a piano riff that screams Dancing Queen. But balances the nostalgia of the ’70 with powerful voices and a broad spectrum instrumentation. You could say that Cyrus has not had this type of sound variation in a disc Can’t be tamed 2010.
Subject Beautiful It is accompanied by a homonymous music film, which will be released in June at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The first theme, Preludehas a very successful name and is an introduction narrated, which gives the wrong impression that the album only serves as a soundtrack for the film. It holds on its own.

This is because most of the 13 themes reflect Cyrus’s work of the last two decades. More to lisefor example, it is an emotional ballad that seems to have been part of the soundtrack of Hannah Montanaalthough their voice and musical sensitivity have matured.
Walk of Famehis lively collaboration with Brittany Howard, also evokes his initial discography, with reminiscences of songs such as Liberty Walk and SCARS of Can’t be tamed.
Cyrus is also inspired by other past times, as in Pretend you Godthat evokes the psychedelic sound of his 2015 album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.
The album benefits from a new structure, perhaps thanks to the supposed barriers imposed by the film that accompanies it. While Cyrus had had difficulty fitting certain songs, especially ballads, in the context of his previous albums (for example, the minimalist Wonder Woman It seemed an arbitrary addition to the other elaborate Endless Summer Vacation), there is continuity in the eclecticism of Subject Beautiful.
There is an electronic and energetic turn towards the second half of the album, specifically on the songs Reborn and Every girl you’ve ever loved. The latter sounds surprisingly similar to something that Lady Gaga would have put in Born This Way. Coincidentally, there is a narrator in the song that sounds disturbingly similar to Gaga.
In many ways, the album is a return to the way for the 32 -year -old artist, whose pop reputation has always been in conflict with his interest in other genres. But it also demonstrates, through these electronic songs in particular, how its sound has evolved and expanded over time.
