Miley Cyrus revealed that she had suffered a medical emergency on stage during her New Year special at the NBC chain in 2023.
The singer declared that the “traumatic” experience, the breakage of a ovarian cyst, made her consider completely abandon her musical career.
“I had a medical emergency,” he said at the Pódcast The Zane Lowe Interview. He continued: “I had the breakage of a ovarian cyst. We didn’t know exactly what happened, so we were going ahead. But it was quite traumatic, because it was extremely painful. I did the program anyway, but it was very hard.”
A ovarian cyst is “a sack full of liquid that develops in an ovary,” according to the NHS (National Health Service of the United Kingdom). These cysts do not usually cause symptoms unless they are divided or broken.
Cyrus performed several successes during the television special Miley’s New Year’s Eve Partyincluding duets with her godly godmother in songs like ‘Wrecking Ball’, ‘Jolene’ by Parton and ‘I Will Always Love You’.
The special was produced by Lorne Michaels, creator of Saturday Night Live, and had guests such as Sia, Paris Hilton and David Byrne. Snl Bowen Yang comedians, Chloe Fineman and Sarah Sherman also made an appearance.
But despite seemingly animated during the performance, the singer of ‘Angels Like You’ said the experience almost made him leave the music.
“I had dinner with Lorne (Michaels) and told me something that was recorded. He said: ‘Six months. Everyone has six months to feel sorry for himself, and then you have to start rebuilding,” he said.
“And by then it was Christmas and it was new year, so I had ended the time in which I could disconnect.” (Lorne) told me: ‘You don’t know how many artists have sat in this chair and they have told me that they were going to leave the music. Everyone does. Everyone has these traumatic experiences, ”he added.
The singer will launch her ninth studio album, Subject Beautiful, May 30.
In June the film of the same name will follow, which has a surprise cameo of the Naomi Campbell catwalk model. The film, written and directed by herself, is described as a “unique pop opera in its kind” and will include 13 songs from her ninth album.
Subject Beautiful It will be released at the Tribeca 2025 Film Festival on June 6.
