For more than ten years, Miley Cyrus could not interpret in public the songs she recorded for Hannah Montana, despite being the voice and image of Disney’s popular character. This restriction was the product of contractual clauses signed in their adolescence, which separated the musical rights from the character from his personal career. The catalog was managed exclusively by Disney and his Hollywood Records seal, which prevented Cyrus from using that repertoire without authorization.
The situation changed in August 2024, when the artist was recognized as Disney Legend during the D23 convention in California, becoming the youngest person to receive that honor. From that moment, he obtained permission to sing the themes of the series that marked his acting and musical debut.
In the Podcast Event Single Album, Cyrus said it was painful not to be able to interpret songs that carried their voice and face. Although it does not plan to include them in their current tours, it valued the fact of having recovered that right.
The Hannah Montana series, issued between 2006 and 2011, made Cyrus a global phenomenon. The double -life character – common day of day and pop star at night – generated tours, records, films and a millionaire franchise. Until now, there are no official announcements on presentations such as Hannah Montana, but Cyrus has shown a willingness to resume that repertoire in the future. In 2020, he even mentioned that he retains the iconic character of the character “ready to return.”
