Mystery abounds after bodies found in Brooklyn – Telemundo New York (47)
NEW YORK — What happened to a man and woman whose decomposing bodies were found inside a Brooklyn apartment, with a knife near one of them, remains a mystery.
Police said the couple found in the apartment Wednesday morning on Ditmas Avenue in Kensington were a 54-year-old woman and a man in his 20s, who neighbors said may have been her nephew.
A friend had come to visit the woman, but when she didn’t answer the door, the friend called the police.
The medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death, but police said the victims had stab wounds. The third floor apartment has been sealed as a crime scene.
Neighbors said they began noticing an unpleasant odor in the building over the weekend.
“We smelled a smell that we thought was coming from the sewers, a strange smell,” said a neighbor who did not want his identity revealed. “It was driving us crazy, we never thought it would be something like this.”
Another neighbor said the smell “lingered for a bit…and it was like rotting meat.”
Neighbors described the woman as “very sweet” and that the two individuals were reserved. Their identities have not yet been shared.
Investigators have not yet shared any potential motive for the murders. They were trying to determine if the deaths were related to domestic violence. An investigation is ongoing.
