Mystery in the north of Neuquén: a previous case warns about the smuggling of medicines near Chile
The border with Chile in northern Neuquén was the scene of a mysterious discovery on January 10. Distributed in packages in the Cajón de Los Chenques area, more than $27 million in veterinary medicines. In September 2024, a similar case happened, but this time at the Pino Hachado pass. What happened?
An abandoned vehicle on Route 242, with a Chilean license plate, caught the attention of the Gendarmerie Squadron 31 in Las Lajas during a patrol near Pino Hachado. When communicating with the Chilean authorities, they confirmed that the vehicle did not have customs exit records.
They reported the incident to the Federal Court of Zapala and reinforced surveillance tasks in the area. Thus, they detected a group of people on foot in a snowy mountainous sector, from Provincial Route 23 towards National Route No. 242.
They fled in different directions, but first they threw some packages they were carrying. Later, during a patrol, they found five boxes containing medicines for veterinary use: energizing metabolic defatigants, cardiorespiratory stimulants, antianemics, vitamin supplements, among others.
Those involved fled and the Carabineros de Chile personnel were alerted about the incident. They did not report that there had been any arrests after the incident.
Mystery in the north of Neuquén: more than $27 million in packages with medicines, clothing and other products
The event reported has some similarities with the mysterious case in northern Neuquén: both occurred on the border with Chile during a patrol and contained veterinary medications.
The cargo found in the Los Chenques Cajon is valued at more than $27 million. It was kept and at the disposal of the Neuquén Customs.
In addition to clothing and other products, inside the packages there were: 76 serums for horses, 389 medications several for horses, 286 energizingfor horses, 1208 supplements vitamins for horses.
Before the mystery in northern Neuquén, there was another case in April
Before the discovery of September 2024, in April, Diario RÍO NEGRO had revealed a similar situation with contraband. On that occasion, it was in the vicinity of the Minas Ñuble International Pass, near Las Ovejas.
At the site, two Toyota Hilux trucks were detected, fully loaded with tires, technological elements and clothing, which were guarded by 5 men in the middle of the night, waiting for the opportunity to cross 35 large packages, consisting of clothing, jackets, shirts, men’s underwear, women’s underwear, warm jackets, neoprene. A 43-inch LCD television, bags of vegetables, car covers and truck covers.
