Violence in Honduras
Despite being under a state of exception for two years with the aim of reducing violence rates, Honduras closed 2024 with a total of 2,503 homicides, according to figures from the Online Police Statistical System (SEPOL).
These statistics reflect that, despite government efforts to control crime, levels of violence continue to be alarming. The state of exception, which restricts certain individual freedoms and seeks to strengthen security operations, has not managed to significantly reduce the number of homicides in the country.
The data highlights the complexity of the problem of violence in Honduras. Furthermore, factors such as drug trafficking, poverty and lack of opportunities continue to fuel insecurity.
