Four flights with deportees arrived this week in Colombia, three in air force aircraft and one on an American plane.
“I ask Colombians and Colombians without documents in the US , after the diplomatic crisis last Sunday between the two countries.
Petro said that the Department of Social Prosperity (DPS) “will seek to deliver productive credits to whom they returned register in their programs” and invited them to build “social wealth in Colombia.”
Diplomatic crisis with the United States
The president disallowed last Sunday the entrance to the country of two aircraft with deportees from the United States, claiming that when handcuffed came they were not receiving a “decent treatment”, which caused a serious diplomatic crisis between the two countries.
In response, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, ordered the imposition of 25 % tariffs on all Colombian products, in addition to other travel and migratory sanctions. Petro responded with a similar tariff measure.
