Postponed the phone call between José Raúl Mulino and Donald Trump

The Presidency of the Republic of Panama announced on Friday, February 7, 2025 that the telephone conversation between Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino, and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, has been postponed.

According to the official statement, the postponement is due to last minute changes in the American president’s agenda, in accordance with the provisions of the White House to the Ministry of Foreign Ministry.

The Foreign Ministry said that a new date will be coordinated for the call and that the details will be communicated in a timely manner.

The dialogue between Mulino and Trump had as its central theme the Panama Canal. Trump, 78, has reiterated his intention to recover control of the interoceanic path, arguing a growing Chinese influence and “unfair” treatment towards US ships.

For its part, Mulino, 65, has been emphatic in the fact that the channel is and will continue to be Panamanian, while highlighting its commitment to strengthening the historical bilateral relations with the United States.

This Friday, within the framework of his agenda, Trump held a meeting in the Oval Office with Japanese Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba.
