“I am confident that your future administration will respond quickly and make clear to the Maduro regime that, under its leadership, the United States will protect the lives and sovereignty of American citizens and will not give in to the threats of petty and murderous dictators,” he added. .
González Colon also stated that “Maduro’s calls for an invasion are a clear attempt to eliminate the US presence and increase its influence in the area.”
Maduro’s statements occurred during World International Antifascist Festivalcarried out in Venezuela, where the dictator affirmed that the “liberation” of Puerto Rico is necessary. He even mentioned the possibility of using Brazilian troops.
“Just as in the north they have an agenda of colonization, we have an agenda of liberation, and the agenda was written for us by Simón Bolívar,” said Maduro. “The freedom of Puerto Rico is pending and we will achieve it with the troops of Brazil. González Colón stressed in his letter the strategic importance of Puerto Rico for the United States.
“The island is home to Fort Buchanan, the only US Army installation in the Caribbean, and other key National Guard installations such as Camp Santiago, Fort Allen and Muñiz Air Baseall of which strategically support exercises and operations conducted by U.S. military partners.”
The governor stated that “Puerto Rico also represents a key position to advance the national security interests of the United States in our region.”. Likewise, he emphasized that the island has chosen to strengthen its ties with the United States through statehood, as demonstrated by the plebiscite held in 2024.
The governor expressed her willingness to collaborate with the Trump administration in protecting the security interests of the region and supporting the Venezuelan people.
“I stand ready to work with you and your administration to counter this and other threats posed by Maduro’s illegitimate dictatorship and support the people of Venezuela in their fight for freedom.”he wrote in the letter.
Jenniffer González regretted the political crisis in Venezuela and supported the president-elect Edmundo González Urrutiaafter the illegitimate inauguration of the socialist dictator on January 10.
“I think it is sad that the Venezuelan people have to suffer the attacks of a dictator who came to power by deceiving the people. I recognize Edmundo González in terms of his leadership“said the governor in a press conference.
