A financial crisis put Wondermind, the Mental Health Foundation co -founded by Selena Gómez. To avoid his collapse, his mother, Mandy Teefey, made an extreme decision: he mortgaged his house.

According to Forbes, since the end of March, employees, suppliers and independent collaborators had not received their payments. On May 8, Teefey, 49, informed the team that he requested a loan using his home as a guarantee to maintain the startup underway.

With that money, he managed to cover part of the debts, according to the same medium. However, a source cited by People Sunday said that the loan was not to cover payroll, and that it was Selena herself who decided to invest again after knowing the economic situation of the company.

Until now, employees have only received one of the two pending salaries, while freelancers and external suppliers are still waiting for payments that could amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Although the singer does not participate in the daily management of Wondermind, she has supported the project since its inception, contributing millions of dollars. The startup, based in Los Angeles, has 15 employees and a network of external collaborators.

A spokesman for the organization recognized financial difficulties, but assured that they were already overcome and that adjustments have been implemented to guarantee the specific payment of the equipment and operational stability.

“In the next few days we will begin a new stage for Wondermind and we will continue with our important work in mental well -being, which helps hundreds of thousands of people,” he said.

Wondermind was founded in 2021 by Selena Gómez, Mandy Teefey and businesswoman Daniella Pierson.
