Selena Gómez will be the great protagonist of Billboard Latin Women in Music 2025

The Mexico American artist Selena Gómez will be recognized as the woman of the year in the 2025 edition of the Billboard Latin Women in Music, a distinction that celebrates not only her artistic success, but also her leadership and her cultural impact.
The ceremony, which will be broadcast live on Telemundo on April 24 at 9 PM/8C, will pay tribute to women who are transforming the Latin music industry.
“With a career that has transcended genres, languages and formats, Selena Gomez has left an indelible mark on pop music and has managed to embrace its Latin roots through projects that celebrate their inheritance and connect with new audiences,” said Billboard’s statement when making the announcement.
His foray into the Latin market began strongly in 2018 with ‘Taki Taki’, a collaboration with DJ Snake, Ozuna and Cardi B that debuted in the number one of the Latin Hot List Latin Songs of Billboard, a position he maintained for 13 weeks.
Since then, his commitment to Spanish music has been strengthened. In 2021 he released ‘Dance with me’ with Rauw Alejandro, an issue that reached number 4 in Hot Latin Songs and reached the first place of Latin Airplay. His EP revelation, entirely in Spanish, debuted in the number one of the Top Latin Albums list, something that did not happen with a female artist from ‘El Dorado’ of Shakira. The album also earned a Grammy nomination for the best Latin pop album.
More recently, Gomez surprised the public with the collaborative album ‘I Said I Love You First’, made alongside producer Benny Blanco.
This work, which includes the theme ‘Sad Eyes’ with The Marías – a reinvention of the classic ‘The boy of sad eyes’ by Jeanette – became the launch with the highest initial sales of his career and put it back on the top 5 of the Hot Latin Songs.
But “Selena Gómez is much more than a successful artist: it is a powerful voice in activism for mental health, social equity and Latin representation. Through its Rare Beauty brand and the Rare Impact Fund, it has mobilized more than 20 million dollars in support of youth mental health programs on five continents,” Billboard added. It is also co -founder of Wondermind, a platform that fights stigma around mental health and promotes emotional well -being.
With her work as an actress, producer, entrepreneur and philanthont, Gomez has proven to be a multifaceted figure that uses her influence to generate real changes. Its impact transcends music, making it a true cultural icon for millions of people.
This year’s ceremony will also pay tribute to other outstanding figures of the Latin music scene such as Anitta (Vanguard Award), Belinda (Evolution Award), Celia Cruz (Legend Award), Chiquis (Impact Award), Ha*Ash (Unbreakable Prize), Natti Natasha (unstoppable artist) and Olga Tañón (Trajectory Award).
The Billboard Latin Women in Music awards can be seen through Telemundo, the APP of Telemundo, Universo and Peacock, and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on International Telemundo. The gala promises to be a celebration of power, resilience and creativity of women who are shaping the present and future of Latin music.
