The imminent railway strike in NJ Transit, in New Jersey, which could start at midnight on Friday, marks the first of its kind in decades.

The negotiations continue in Washington DC under the supervision of federal referees according to Telemundo 47 on its web portal.

However, the lack of a salary agreement between NJ Transit and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers has led to the preparation of measures that could affect hundreds of thousands of passengers.

This stagnation threatens to interrupt the trains and buses service, a fact that has not happened since 1983.

Consequences

Given the possibility of the strike, NJ Transit has canceled the service to the Metlife stadium for Shakira concerts scheduled for Thursday and Friday, which could impact many attendees.

Although contingency plans have been implemented, such as shuttle buses from strategic points, it is estimated that around 350,000 passengers could be affected if the strike is carried out.

The last significant strike in NJ Transit occurred in 1983 and lasted approximately one month, which highlights the severity of the current situation.
