And now It was the turn of singer Shakira to issue a resounding message in which in addition to urging the public to raise his voice and stay united, he also remembered his own experience as an immigrant.
In a deep talk with BBC, The Colombian star reflected on the challenges brought by her move to US territory when she sought to catapult her career internationally and incorporate issues in English.
According to Shakira, the first of the obstacles that appeared on his way was the language barrier: “I was only 19 when I moved to the US, like many other Colombian immigrants who arrive in this country in search of a better future“He told the middle microphones.
“I remember that it was surrounded by Spanish-English dictionaries and synonym dictionaries, because at that time I did not have Google or Chatgpt to help. So everything was very precarious“He added.
However, along the way he found the support of various people, as well as the acceptance of the American public. For this reason, he regretted that there is currently rejection against those who leave their country for a better quality of life.
“It means living with constant fear,” he described when questioned about what Latinos experience before the current political climate in the United States. “And it is painful to see it,” he complemented.
Shakira ended his intervention by urging Hispanics not to be intimidated and listened to because that is the only way to motivate change. “Now, more than ever, we have to stay together. Now, more than ever, we have to raise our voice and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but treatment to all people must always be human“He said.
