“Sinners” surpasses “Minecraft” and leads the box office – Metro Puerto Rico

New York (AP) – Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” film, starring the twins Michael B. Jordan, turned out to be an exception to the rules of modern cinema, being released with 45.6 million dollars at the box office in cinemas in the United States and Canada, according to estimates of the studies released on Sunday.

“Sinners”, a premiere of Warner Bros. whose production cost about 90 million dollars, was a bold commitment to originality, although with gender elements, and one of the most profitable American directors, Coogler. AND

The director of “Creed” and “Black Panther” wrote and produced “Sinners”, a vampire film set in 1932 on two smugglers (both played by Jordan) that open a bar of bad death in his hometown of Mississippi.

“A Minecraft film”, the greatest success of Hollywood of the year, followed closely in second place, raising $ 41.3 million in its third week of premiere. This gave Warner Bros., after several disappointments, an enviable double box office with an original film directed by a director and an intellectual property.

“To Minecraft Movie,” that Warner Bros. Coprodujo with Legendary Pictures, has raised $ 720.8 million worldwide in three weeks since its premiere.

Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca, co -chants of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, celebrated the impact of both films among the public. The study represented a notable 64% of the national box office during the Easter weekend.

“The films have the power to transport us to worlds that are only seen on the big screen, and Warner Bros. Pictures maintains their commitment to provide unique experiences in the cinema to audiences looking for bold films, both original and based on existing dear properties,” said Abdy and Luca in a statement on Sunday.

But all eyes were put in the performance of “Sinners”, which Warner Bros. struggled to the maximum to get. Abdy and Luca agreed to give Coogler not only part of the box office, but also the property of the film after 25 years, a practically unheard of concession.

But Coogler and Jordan, whose collaborations date back to “Fruitvale Station”, make up one of the most powerful director and actor duos in the industry. The criticisms (98% positive in Rotten Tomatoes) were stellar for “Sinners” and the public was also captivated by their supernatural turns. The film obtained a “A” qualification in Cinemascore by the spectators.

Abroad, “Sinners” faced a more difficult battle. Raised $ 15.4 million in 71 international markets. Nationally, “Sinners” attracted a diverse audience: 38% African -American, 35% white, 18% Hispanic and 5% Asian.

Before “Sinners”, the dual roles had been a difficult matter for Warner Bros. The studio saw failures both in “The Alto Knights” (a period of period gangsters with a double Robert de Niro) and in “Mickey 17” (a science fiction film with two Robert Pattinson).

But the solid premiere of “Sinners”, which should be maintained in the coming weeks thanks to its great popularity, consolidates Coogler as one of the few filmmakers whose name attracts great audiences. Another would be Jordan Pele, whose “Nope” film (2022) debuted similarly with 44.3 million dollars.

“The King of Kings” by Angel Studios, an animated story about the life of Jesus addressed to the Christian public, took advantage of Easter weekend, raising 17.2 million dollars in his second week of premiere. This figure was almost equal to that of its premiere weekend (19.1 million dollars), which raised “the King of Kings” to a national total of 45.3 million dollars.

“The Wedding Banquet” by Bleecker Street, the reinterpretation of Andrew Ahn of the Queer comedy of 1993 Ang Lee errors, premiered on 1142 North American screens with a collection of 922 906 dollars. “The wedding banquet”, a success at the Sundance Film Festival, stars Lily Gladstone, Bowen Yang, Kelly Marie Tran and the debutant Han Gi-chan.
