This Friday, May 30, Miley Cyrus’s new album comes out, ‘Submithing Beautiful’. And beyond music, described by herself as a “unique pop opera in its kind” inspired by the film adaptation of The ‘Wall’ by Pink Floyd “but with better costumes and more glamor”, we must be very attentive that the artist tells us in her thirteen songs.

Produced by Miley Cyrus and Shawn Everett, the album will be accompanied by a visual film that will be released in June, directed by Miley Cyrus, Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter, in which the most intricate secrets of this new work will be revealed. But the lyrics already say a lot about the message that the former Disney girl wants to launch.

The album starts with ‘Prelude’a prelude as the title says, in which Miley launches a speech on atmospheric music, almost cinematographic: «How to say your name out loud in an empty room. How to see my body in a mirror, wishing to be seen, wishing to be real, ”recites the artist, as looking for herself in the maelstrom of fame.

The next song, which gives title to the album, is a kind of dark neo-soul and dragged rhythm in which Miley takes us to the depths of heartbreak by saying “Eat my heart, breaks my soul, take what remains of me, let me go.” ‘End of the world’ Refront the light, with a cheerful melody and a letter of pure resurrection: «We are going to spend the dollars that you have been saving on a Mercedes-Benz, and give a party like McCartney with a little help from our friends. Yes, we are going to go down to Malibu and see the sun vanish once again ».

‘More to lise’ He speaks of a couple who knows that he has reached a point of no return, and that he cannot prevent that feeling from floating in the air: «He approaches again. And you say it. But I wish it wasn’t true, I knew that one day one would have to choose. I thought we had more to lose.

After the instrumental ‘Interlude 1’, ‘Easy Lover’ It is the confession of those who cannot stop missing the lost love, no matter how much I would suffer: «You go crazy, but I still miss you when you are not. Every second and every hour (…) I love to hate you, but I can’t stand when you’re not ». Then another instrumental arrives, ‘interlude 2’, which follows ‘Golden Burning Sun’that goes in the same line but even more explicitly: «I will tell everyone that you are the only one I want. Can I have you if I never disappoint you? I had a dream and I saw a vision. We build a house where we could live. I know we are young, but we are growing. We would bathe in the water. Then we would have dinner with your father ».

In ‘Walk of Fame’ He describes what it is to feel harassed by the paparazzi constantly: «Every time it is a walk of fame. Yes, cars shine and illuminate my face. Every day, every night is all the same. I walk the asphalt as if it were a stage. Every night looking for a place to hide. And in ‘Trend you’re God’it seems to want to reveal that at some point in his life he has lived a most toxic sentimental relationship: «Do you still love me? I have to know. It doesn’t matter, shut up if you don’t. Hold me in your arms. It pretends you are God. I am bewitched … ».

Naomi Campbell is the surprising collaborator of Cyrus in ‘Every girl you’ve ever love’who also speaks of a man who makes her feel insecure: «Am I not beautiful enough for anything more than fun in the dark? You are looking for a woman, but one is never enough.

But how could it be otherwise, Miley claims herself in ‘Reborn’where he claims to know what he has to do to overcome the heartbreak: “Kill my ego, rebirth.” And he says goodbye asking “give me love, give me love, give me love” again in ‘Give me love’which ends with some verses of the most cryptic and, certainly, chilling: «I say goodbye to earthly pleasures, while my perfect Eden burns in flames. He is eating the mouth of a monster alive, while shouting your name ».

The album cover, made by Glen Luchford, shows Cyrus dressed in a 1997 Thierry Mugler suit, a garment that also appears in the ‘Prelude’ video. Fashion occupies a central place in the film, with original custom designs by Casey Cadwalader for Mugler that are shown in ‘Something Beautiful’ and ‘End of the World’. The visual film also presents the largest loan of archive pieces by Thierry Mugler ever granted to a single person, along with unusual designs by Jean Paul Gaultier, tailored designs by Alexander McQueen and Alaïa.
