Taylor Swift could have the opportunity to buy the original masters of its first six albums

After a long and bitter dispute over the property of Taylor Swift’s recordings, it is reported that the pop superstar could have the opportunity to buy back the original masters of its first six albums: “Taylor Swift”, “Fearless”, “Speak Now”, “Red”, “1989” and “Reputation”.
Currently, the masters belong to the investment firm Shamrock capitalwho bought them Scooter Braun. Braun, through his Ithaca Holdings company, acquired Big Machine Label Group in 2019 in an agreement valued at more than 300 million dollars, which granted the rights of Swift’s original recordings. This initial sale caused a public conflict between Swift and Braun, whom she described as a “stalker” and “the definition of toxic male privilege in our industry.”
In recent years, the artist has been re-registered albums in question under the concept “Taylor’s Versions”, an initiative that lit a conversation throughout the industry about the property of artists about their work.
Thus, the dispute is once again in the spotlight of the sector after knowing the information that Braun himself is promoting a possible agreement for Shamrock Capital to sell the recordings to Swift. However, some sources have suggested Dailymail.com which could be an attempt to wash their public image after the conflict with the artist.
The potential purchase would have a considerable price, estimated between 600 million and 1,000 million dollars. Clayton Durantfounder of Cad Management, explained to Page Six that, despite the high cost, it would be a profitable investment for Swift. When Taylor launches a re -recorded version (“Taylor’s version”), the consumption of the original version also increases, increasing the profits from which it is currently excluded. If you possess both the original recordings and its “Taylor’s Versions”, it would get most of the publication royalties of both, and would have total control over its catalog, being able to decide on licenses for use in commercials, movies, television programs and political events.
