This increase reflects fans’ enthusiasm after the news that Swift now has all his masters, a milestone after years of disputes for the control of his music.
‘All the music I have made … now it belongs to me … to me’
Taylor Swift has recovered the rights of its first six albums: Taylor Swift (2006), Fearless (2008), Speak Now (2010), Red (2012), 1989 (2014) and Reputation (2017).
In a letter published on his website, he expressed his emotion, stating: “All the music I have done now belongs to me”, highlighting that this includes musical videos, concert movies, art, photographs and unpublished songs.
This milestone, announced on May 30, 2025, ends a dispute that began in 2019, when Scooter Braun acquired Big Machine Records, the seal that owned the masters of these albums, for about 300 million dollars.
“I feel extremely encouraged by the dialogue that this saga has revived in the music industry between artists and fans. Every time a new artist and tells me that by this fight they negotiated their own original recordings in their contract, I remember how important it was for all that this happened.”
Swift denounced that he was not given the opportunity to buy his own recordings and, in response, he began to re -record four of these albums (Fearless, Red, Speak Now and 1989) under the seal “Taylor’s version”, including unpublished songs “From The Vault”.
These refrabations were a commercial and symbolic success, displacing the original versions in popularity.
“To say that this is the dream of a superstar, becoming a reality, is, in reality, to say little. My fans know how important it has been for me, so much that I rewritten it and published it meticulously again and again, calling it ‘Taylor’s version'”, reads in the Swift letter addressed to his fans.
Swift bought the masters from Shamrock Capital, which had acquired them from Braun in 2020 for about 360 million dollars.
He thanked his fans for the support during his eras tour (2023-2024), which raised more than 2,000 million dollars, which allowed him to finance this acquisition.
“The passionate support they have provided to those albums and songs over the years gave life to the eras Tour, and that is what makes me return now. I greatly thank you that they have helped me to meet again with the art to which I have dedicated my life, but I had never possessed so far,” said the interpreter of “Enchatted.”
