The US completes the delivery of a new batch of 50 JLTV 4×4 vehicles to the Lithuanian Army
On January 15, The US completed the delivery of a new batch of 50 Oshkosh JLTV 4×4 tactical vehicles to the Lithuanian Army. This agreement is part of the purchase of a second batch of 300 vehicles, the remaining delivery of which is scheduled for the end of this year, making the country one of the main operators of this class.
Within the framework of a process aimed at guaranteeing the operational needs of the army, cooperation between the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense and the United States government has a long history. Thus, after the signing of the purchase agreement in 2019, the first phase of deliveries of the JLTV 4×4 vehicles, produced by Oshkosh Defense, began. During this stage, the Lithuanian forces were provided with a total of 200 units, a process that culminated in 2023.
Subsequently, the second phase began in 2022, after the signing of a new contract that included an additional order for 300 units, with the aim of setting the army fleet at a total of 500 vehicles. In this context, on March 14 of last year, the first batch corresponding to this agreement arrived, consisting of 35 units.
More recently, through an official statement from the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, it was reported on the delivery of a new batch of 50 vehicles carried out on January 15. It should be noted that, over the course of the month, the delivery of fifty units has already been made.
Finally, the rest of the vehicles, necessary to complete the fleet of 500 units of the Lithuanian army, are expected to be delivered during 2025. In addition, the statement adds that: “The RBS70 NG short-range air defense systems (English abbreviation – MSHORAD) are also installed on the JLTV all-terrain platform, which Lithuania acquired in July 2024. Delivery of these systems is planned for 2025-2027. The advantage of JLTV SUVs lies in their high level of protection for the crew. These technically advanced all-terrain vehicles ensure greater effectiveness during reconnaissance, artillery and air support operations. The JLTV not only strengthens the capabilities of our military, but also improves interaction between the Lithuanian and US military forces.”.
