The days Saturday 12 and Sunday, April 13Medellín will host two Shakira concerts as part of his tour “Women no longer cry tour”.
One of these events corresponds to the reprogrammed date after the cancellation of the show provided in February, while the other was subsequently added. Both will take place at the Atanasio Girardot stadium.
According to the Secretary of Tourism of Medellín, José Alejandro González, “about 69 thousand people are expected to attend the concert, which is estimated to have an economic impact of about 11 million dollars.” Of this amount, about 35,000 will be national and international tourists.
The high influx of visitors coincides with the Holy Week seasonwhich increases the presence of people in the city.
Changes in mobility and public transport schedules
Concerts imply a series of road closures in the stadium sectorannounced by the Mobility Secretariat. These restrictions will be in force from Friday, April 11 at 6:00 am until Monday, April 14 at 10:00 am the roads that will close are the following:
- Carrera 74 (Eastern Road), between streets 48 and 50: Closed from April 11 at 6:00 am to April 14 at 10:00 am
- Carrera 74 (western road), between streets 48 and 50: Closed from 10:00 pm on Saturday, April 12 until 3:00 am on Sunday, April 13.
- 48th Street, between races 70 and 73: Closed from 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 12 until 4:00 am on Sunday, April 13.
Besides, The internal cycle path of the Atanasio Girardot Sports Unit will be suspended from Tuesday, April 8 to Wednesday 16 of Abril, due to the assembly and disassembly work of the stage and other structures of the event.
The Medellín Metro will also adjust its operation to facilitate mobility during the nights of the event. Metro’s social and customer service manager, Jaime Andrés Ortiz, indicated that The commercial service will be extended on lines A and B.
Although the usual service concludes at 11:00 pm on Saturday and 10:00 pm on Sunday, A special operation will be activated from 12:30 am to 1:50 amwith exclusive income from the Stadium Station. Users can only leave at the Bello, Acevedo, Caribbean, San Antonio, Poblado, Aguacatala, Envigado, La Estrella and San Javier stations.
Ortiz made a recommendation to those who will use the system: “We invite travelers to live the Metro culture within our system and to arrive with their recharged means of payment to facilitate admission.”
Organization, recommendations and security measures
The stadium doors will open at 4:30 pm, while the artist’s presentation is scheduled for 9:30 pm Logistics recommends attendees to place the entrance door corresponding to their locality in advance, since they can only access the assigned. Manuel Villa Mejía, Secretary of Security of Medellín, announced that units of the Metropolitan Police will be deployed to maintain public order during concerts and activities of Holy Week. There will also be the support of firefighters and medical personnel before any eventuality.
