They ask for more than one million euros to Jennifer López for publishing photos of his without authorization from the author

The singer and actress Jennifer López has been sued for publishing her photos on social networks that were taken during a red carpet in Los Angeles. The photographer and a paparazzi agency claim that the famous one did not get permission to use them as their own in their profiles and demand it for a total of 1.35 million dollars (1.19 million euros).

The artist shared the images on her social networks arriving at the Amazon MGM Studios and Vanity Fair In Los Angeles the night before the Golden Globes of this year, in last January. Photographer Edwin Blanco and Backgrid, the agency for which he worked, presented demands, claiming that they possess the copyright of these photos and in no case assigned those rights to the protagonist of the images.

The photographs, according to the plaintiffs, were used “to promote the public appearances of the López, promote the interaction of the users, increase the possibility of sharing them and giving credibility to their brand content,” they argue. Backgrid and Mr. Blanco demand compensation of up to $ 150,000 for each photo. “The unauthorized use of the images by Mrs. López is of a commercial nature, for the purpose of self -promotion,” says the demands.

Any person who appears in a photograph does not possess the copyright of the same. These usually belong to the photographer or the company for which they work, and they can decide who can use it and how much you should pay. The legal documents indicate that Backgrid and Mr. Blanco contacted López’s representatives after she published them and agreed to an agreement and a payment, but that she has not yet signed the agreement.

The images showed the star with a white dress and a white synthetic leather coat outside the party at Château Marmont. “For example, Mrs. López used the images to highlight the designer of her clothes and jewels, taking advantage of the advertising of the event to promote her affiliations of fashion and collaborations with brands,” says the demand.

López has faced legal actions in the past, in 2019 and again in 2020, for sharing photos taken by others. She is not the first to face such a demand, famous such as Dua Lipa, Gigi Hadid and Khloe Kardashian have also been subject to similar legal demands for sharing images without rights in social networks.
