They rule out the arrest of “El Güerito”, Iván Archivaldo’s security chief accused by the US
Sinaloa authorities ruled out the arrest of José Ángel Canobbio Inzunzaalias ‘The Güerito‘, identified as a high-ranking operator of Los Chapitos.
On Friday, January 10, a confrontation took place between security elements and armed civilians in the town of Zapotillo, located in the municipality of Mocorito. Local media reported the arrest of an individual and the release of at least five people who had been kidnapped.
At the time, the arrest of Canobbio Inzunza was revealed, without the authorities confirming these reports. Even the independent journalist Luis Chaparro spread the alleged capture of this subject, citing sources from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena).
“Sources from Sedena confirm that José Ángel Cannobio, ‘El Güerito’, a key financial figure for Los Chapitos, was captured a few hours ago and is now being taken to the police station. Mexico City“, Chaparro indicated through his X account.
The next day, the spokesperson for the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) of Sinaloa, Verona Hernandez Valenzuelawas questioned about the alleged arrest of ‘El Güerito’. In this regard, the official pointed out that the authorities were not aware of the capture of a priority objective, as mentioned in some local reports.
“In these events, so far we do not have this person who is indicated in some media as detained (…) From the Ministry of Public Security we do not have information on a priority objective until the moment he has been detained “, accurate.
For his part, the Secretary General of the Government, Feliciano Castro Melendrezalso ruled out the arrest of ‘El Güerito’ and called on citizens not to spread false news.
“Yesterday, certainly, many people ran through the networks. speculations supported by inventions. There is no such arrest as was reported on networks, that there were important targets detained. There was even talk that one of them had died. This information is totally false. It is confirmed by federal and local authorities. We reiterate our call for all of us to promote the truth, for people to read the networks with a lot of critical sense,” Meléndrez said.
Through a query carried out by this means, it was learned that the name of José Ángel Canobbio Inzunza does not appear in the National Arrest Registry. Until now, the identity of the person detained in Mocorito is unknown.
José Ángel’s name gained greater notoriety on November 7, 2024, when a federal grand jury in ChicagoUnited States, accused said individual for his involvement in activities of drug trafficking.
According to an indictment filed in Northern District of IllinoisCanobbio Inzunza (then 44 years old) was part of the Sinaloa Cartel faction known as Los Chapitos, which is headed by the children of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán.
‘El Güerito’, according to US authorities, served as “principal advisor, lieutenant and head of security” of Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazarson of Chapo for whom they offer up to USD 10 million reward.
The indictment indicates that Canobbio led an armed group known as “The Chimales”through which security was provided to Los Chapitos. Additionally, he was involved in cocaine trafficking, fentanylmethamphetamine and marijuana to the United States.
José Ángel Canobbio Inzunza has a brother named Jorge Abrahamwho also plays a key role within the criminal organization. Although he was detained in the United States in 2011 after crossing the border with USD 25,000 in cash, he only spent a couple of months behind bars, thanks to signing a plea agreement.
Although there are no official photographs of the Cannobio Inzunza brothers, both appeared in some frills who were deployed in several municipalities of Sinaloa on September 27, where they were accused of kidnapping and collection of rent.
