The United States will impose 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports as of this Monday (10.02.2025), President Donald Trump announced.
“All the steel that arrives in the United States will have 25% of tariffs,” said the president from the presidential plane, according to reports by journalists aboard the flight to New Orleans, where Trump would attend an important sporting event.
Trump added that the tariffs themselves will be applied to aluminum imports.
The US president also indicated that he will announce “Tuesday or Wednesday” the “reciprocal tariffs” with which he seeks to align customs customs taxes that enter the United States in the same way in which American products are taxed abroad.
“If they tax us with 130% and we don’t, that will not continue,” he said.
“That will not affect all countries because some impose the same tariffs as us. But those who benefit from the United States will be returned,” he said.
As of Tuesday, products from China will have additional 10%tariffs, a measure that Beijing decided to respond with specific tariffs on certain American products from February 10.
