Trump chooses Ken Howery, a friend of Musk, to get Greenland
Ken Howery is a quiet, modest technology investor who prioritizes discretion. And yet, it has ended up in the middle of two of the loudest stories of the incoming Trump administration.
One is the expansionist ambition of Elon Musk, Howery’s close friend and party buddy since they both helped run PayPal 25 years ago.
The other is the expansionist ambition of Musk’s boss, President-elect Donald Trump, who has set his sights on purchasing Greenland, the world’s largest island.
As Trump’s pick for ambassador to Denmark, Howery is expected to prove instrumental in what Trump hopes will be a real estate deal of epic proportions. The only problem is that Denmark, which counts Greenland as an autonomous territory, says the island is not for sale.
Whether he likes it or not, Howery, a globetrotter known for his penchant for adventure and planning elaborate parties, is likely to find himself in the middle of a geopolitical storm.
