Budde’s comments occurred during the traditional inaugural service, which Trump attended after assuming his second term as president of the United States. “I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President.”said Budde, who criticized the policies announced on Monday by Trump, including the suspension of the arrival of asylum seekers, the expulsion of undocumented migrants and the decree that establishes that only two sexes will be recognized, male and female, excluding transgender people.

In response to Budde’s comments, Trump previously stated that he didn’t think it was “good service.” However, in his publication in Truth Social, the president expanded his criticism: “In addition to his inappropriate statements, the service was very boring and uninspiring. She’s not very good at her job! She and her church owe a public apology!“, wrote.

Bishop Budde, who leads the Episcopal diocese that includes Washington National Cathedral, was an outspoken critic of Trump in the past, particularly during his first presidential term, sparking tensions between progressive religious leaders and the Republican leader.
