Donald Trump returned to his immigrant rhetoric and in the midst of the crisis in California due to the fires, suggested that those affected by the fires in Los Angeles are paying “for their own destruction”
The president-elect blamed the Los Angeles fires on “illegal immigrants” and an “inept” government that misuses homeowners’ tax dollars.
In a message on social networks, the Republican, true to his style, wrote that“The real irony… a homeowner agrees to pay property taxes that will go to the fire department. “Funds are diverted to illegal immigrants because Los Angeles is a sanctuary city.”.
This is not the first time that Trump attacks Newsom in the midst of the fires, since a week ago he also blamed the governor of California for the lack of water that has exacerbated the fire in Los Angeles. He said that five years ago he obtained federal approvals to supply millions of gallons of water from the north, including parts of Canada, but that Newsom refused to sign the agreement.
However, Trump now went further, although he did not provide any evidence that taxpayer money had been diverted to the city’s immigration programs.
Besides, blamed undocumented immigrants for causing fires in Los Angeles.
“An illegal immigrant comes and sets your house on fire and the firefighters do not have the resources to put it out,” he wrote. “The owner paid for his own destruction. Plus, the government is so inept that insurance companies no longer insure homes here, so the homeowner is left with nothing.”.
So far, it is unknown exactly what caused the series of fires that started in Los Angeles last week, so theories are being investigated that indicate a deteriorated electrical infrastructure or that they were intentionally set.
