Trump’s immigration policies: Shakira’s words

Ask for unit

Shakira asks for human treatment to migrants.

Colombian singer Shakira spoke about her experience as an immigrant living in the United States under the current immigration policies of President Donald Trump.

In an interview with the BBC this weekend, the singer -songwriter was asked what it was to be an immigrant in the US today, especially in the middle of the raids of the customs immigration and control service (ICE).

“Being an immigrant in the US means living with constant fear. And it is painful to see it,” said the 48 -year -old interpreter, who also reflected on how the country has changed since he moved to Miami being a teenager in the mid -90s.

“I was only 19 when I moved to the United States, like many other Colombian immigrants who arrive in this country looking for a better future,” he recalled.

“Now, more than ever, we must remain united. Now, more than ever, we must raise their voice and make it very clear that a country can change its immigration policies, but treatment to all people must always be human,” Shakira said.

With these statements, the Colombian joins the growing number of musicians who manifest against federal raids in southern California.
