The singer and actress Miley Cyrus revealed in the podcast “Reclaiming” by Monica Lewinsky that was removed from the cast of the animated film Hotel Transylvania (2012) after a photo of his licking a penis -shaped cake, a birthday gift for his then boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth.
Cyrus, who at that time was 18, had already been chosen to give voice to Mavis Dracula, the character that Selena Gomez finally performed. “It was a private joke, but the camera was stolen at a party and the photo leaked,” he explained. The star criticized Sony Pictures’s decision, arguing that “in Nashville they sell cakes like this in all bachelorers” and was punished for doing something “normal for a girl of her age.”
This is not the first time that the artist talks about the subject. In 2019, he tweeted: “They took me from ‘Hotel Transylvania’ for buying a penis cake from Liam.” Although Sony never commented publicly, sources from the study confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the photo was the reason for its dismissal.
Cyrus, who jumped to fame with Hannah Montana, said the incident reflects a double standard: “It was fine that he worked in a children’s film, but I was not a girl.”
