The social and opposition activist Yaser Morazán is imprisoned in the Jorge Navarro prison system, known as La Modelo, “for days,” confirmed a source that asked not to be identified.

Morazán in the past made videos explaining the political situation of Nicaragua, with a critical position against Daniel Ortega’s regime and against the Nicaraguan opposition, amid the context of civil protests of 2018, which were brutally repressed by the Orteguista police and armed civilians , which left more than 300 dead that year, according to reports from international human rights organizations.
In 2019, Morazán left the country due to the threats of Sandinista fans, at a time when opponents were being persecuted and imprisoned for maintaining their criticism of the regime. According to the information he published on social networks, he lived in Costa Rica and then in the United States.
When he returned to the country in 2021, he was interrogated for three hours at the Managua International Airport, something that his brother and also opponent in exile, the lawyer Yader Morazán.
Since he returned to the country, Morazán did not make critical publications against the Ortega dictatorship, nor stood out in the public sphere. He no longer did political or social activism, but he was still arrested.
Son of a political release
Yaser Morazán is 39 years old, is originally from the department of Matagalpa. He is the son of the Sandinista retired military Alfonso José Morazán Castillo, who was imprisoned in 2018 for participating in civil protests against Ortega and was released in May 2019.
He studied chemical analysis at the National Technological Institute in Granada, and then studied Social Work at the Central American University (UCA). His first approach to human rights organizations was in 2007 working with the Organization of American States (OAS). He also did a postgraduate degree in family psychology.
