Young Venezuelan dies in accident in the United States
Eglin Manuel Castro Álvarez, a 27-year-old Venezuelan, died after a traffic accident in Illinois, United States, on January 7. The young man was with his 7-year-old daughter in Oak Lawn.
It was learned that a driver, allegedly drunk, ran a red light and hit the vehicle in which they were traveling.
Álvarez migrated from Venezuela in November 2023 with his wife and daughter. On the day of the accident he had just left one of his two jobs and looked for his little girl at an aunt who was taking care of her, and when he was returning home after midnight, he was hit by a vehicle while waiting for the traffic light to change.
The young man died in a hospital at 6:15 am that Tuesday. The girl, for her part, remains hospitalized with multiple fractures in her hip, spine and ribs.
“The girl is very bad, she is very beaten,” said an aunt of the minor.
According to family statements to local media, the impact was so strong that Álvarez’s vehicle, a 2006 Honda, ended up against an empty store.
The family now faces a double tragedy, the minor’s medical expenses and the desire to repatriate the Venezuelan’s body to the country.
