Jennifer Lopez faces demand for copyright after publishing photos of herself without permission

Jennifer Lopez is in a legal problem, after she was sued for unauthorized use of images she shared on her social networks. These photographs were taken by paparazzi in an event after the Golden Globes 2024 and are owned by photographer Edwin Blanco and the Backgrid USA agency, who claim financial compensation.

The incident took place on January 5, when the actress and singer attended a party organized by Amazon MGM Studios and Vanity Fair in Los Angeles, after the Golden Globes ceremony. During her arrival at Chateau Marmont, Jennifer was photographed by wearing an elegant white dress of the designer Silvia Tcherrassi and a synthetic skin shelter.

The images taken by Edwin Blanco were published days later by the artist herself in her Instagram and X accounts accompanied by the text: “GG Weekend Glamor.”

Four months after the event, both Edwin Blanco and Backgrid USA filed a lawsuit claiming that Lopez used their work without authorization, violating the copyright laws in force in the United States. The plaintiffs say that they are the only legal headlines of the images, and that the singer did not obtain any license to reproduce them.

According to the legal document, compensation of up to $ 150,000 for each photograph is being requested, arguing that the publications had a possible commercial purpose, benefiting the public image and personal promotion of Lopez.

It is worth mentioning that it is not the first time that Jennifer Lopez faces this type of legal problems. In 2019, the artist had already been sued by the same agency and the same photographer, although on that occasion the charges were voluntarily removed in 2020.

So far, neither Jennifer Lopez nor their legal representatives have issued an official statement in this regard.
