Miley Cyrus revealed that for more than ten years he could not legally interpret Hannah Montana’s songs due to contractual clauses signed in his adolescence, a situation he described as contradictory.

“It was sad to know that those songs had my voice, my face, and I couldn’t sing them,” he declared in the Podcast Every Single Album; This impediment persisted even after the end of the series in 2011 while the artist developed her solo career, since Disney and Hollywood Records maintained exclusive control of the musical material associated with the character.

The turning point came in August 2024 when Cyrus was recognized as Disney Legend during the D23 convention in Anaheim, a distinction that made her the youngest person to receive this honor and that allowed her to recover the rights of interpretation: “After being recognized as a Disney legend, I was granted permission to sing those songs in the future,” the singer confirmed; although it has not yet announced specific presentations with this repertoire.

Cyrus expressed in his acceptance speech that he is still “proud” of the character he played between 2006 and 2011, even retaining the iconic blonde wig that he mentioned in 2020 could use in an eventual symbolic return while continuing to promote his solo album Submitting Beautiful launched in 2025.
