On January 11, the image of the patron saint arrived at its first destination, the parish of Divina Pastora and Santa Teresa. Over the next few months and on the occasion of her jubilee year, the Virgin of Victory will tour seven parishes in historic neighborhoods of the city of Malaga, starting with Capuchinos.

The Brotherhood of Victory is experiencing its own Jubilee Year for the 150th anniversary of its founding in 2025, a celebration that began with the opening of the holy door of the Sanctuary of Victory at the end of the processional departure of the Virgin on the 8th. September 2024. To celebrate it, among other activities and projects, the brotherhood has begun the pilgrimage of the Patron Saint through different parishes in the city.

January
On January 11, the image of the patron saint left the Royal Sanctuary of Victory after a prayer and the singing of the Hymn of the Canonical Coronation of Saint Mary of Victory by the Choir of the Basilica. He did so first towards the temple of the Divina Pastora and Saint Teresa (Capuchins)where it remains until January 17. Her arrival was received with joy by the faithful and residents of the neighborhood, who were waiting for her in the square to give her the warmest welcome. The eldest brother, Miguel Orellana, states that “the transfer procession was very emotional, experienced with intensity by all the participants. Subsequently, the Eucharist was shared by many people and the visits have been permanent. The Virgin has not been alone at any time, practically. The participation has been very nice and we are very happy with the response that the faithful and devotees are having. “We are contemplating very emotional experiences, which we believe enrich and bring the community closer to God.” The eldest brother highlights the collaboration and dedication of the parish priest, the community of Poor Clares and the community in general in the preparation and development of these events.

There the image is being venerated (it can be done daily from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.), and its presence is celebrated with a series of cults and activities detailed below. Among them, on Saturday, January 11, the Eucharist of the archpriestship of the Axarquía Interior stands out to win the Jubilee, as a station for their pilgrimage to the Cathedral and the Eucharist broadcast on Radio María. On Sunday, January 12, the Prayer of priests, deacons and their families. On the 13th, the Eucharist with the assistance of Salesian Cooperators, on January 14, the Eucharist with the governing boards of the brotherhoods of the pastoral unit; on January 15, coinciding with the opening of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, interdenominational prayer for peace with the people cared for in parish Caritas; On January 16, Eucharist with the participation of the Santa María de la Victoria Choir. At its end, a ceramic altarpiece commemorating the visit of the Patroness was blessed in the baptismal chapel. Every morning, the image is being visited by the student of the school attached to the parish, Divina Pastora, from the Victoria Foundation. On Friday the 17th, the Catechism Children’s Meeting takes place, at 5:00 p.m.; and on Saturday, January 18, Eucharist of the Dawn at 7:30 a.m. before their transfer to the parish of San Pablo.

After her stay at the Mártires, the image of the patron saint will be transferred to the Holy Cathedral Church, where a Solemn Seasonal Mass will be celebrated accompanied by an extraordinary procession around May 4, the date on which the 150 years of the Brotherhood are celebrated. After that, it will return to its Basilica Sanctuary to receive worship for the rest of the month of May, being visited by numerous pilgrims from across the diocese, as usual.

The faithful themselves are in charge of transporting the image to each temple, on Saturdays corresponding to 8:30 in the morning, carrying the Virgin on a litter.

In each of the stations, it is planned to celebrate services and activities in which the parish community and schools in the area will participate. The stay in the parish of San Gabriel coincides with the date of the anniversary of his Canonical Coronation, in the old Plaza del General Torrijos, so that anniversary will be commemorated in a special way.

The agenda of pilgrimages by month can be consulted in detail here.

Accompany the patron saint on her pilgrimage

The Brotherhood of Victory has launched for this pilgrimage the Pilgrim Passport. This initiative – which has the support of the Central District of the Malaga City Council – allows the people of Malaga to prove that they have accompanied the Patroness during her stay at the different temples. In each church you can obtain the personalized stamp of each temple to complete the passport. Anyone who manages to complete it will get the victoriana special accreditation issued by the Brotherhood that can be requested starting March 4 at the Brotherhood House -Plaza de la Victoria nº6- by contacting in advance by email victoriana@santamariadelavictoria.es.

The passport can be obtained for free at the Nazareno, Ojeda and Zalo brotherhood stores in the center of Malaga; at the San Lázaro souvenir stand of the Rocío Brotherhood and in the seven parishes – in addition to the Sanctuary itself – that the Patroness visits. This document can be in the name of a person or a family.
