Review of “Paradise”: Mystery, power and hidden secrets
Monday, January 27, 2025
Set in an idyllic community inhabited by globally influential figures, Paradise (2025) begins with a shocking murder: the death of the president of the United States. Created by Dan Fogelman, the series introduces from its first episode a complex mystery centered around the head of the Secret Service, Xavier Collins, played by Sterling K. Brown.
The discovery of the president’s body in his room, made by Xavier, gives rise to an investigation that points to him as the main suspect. This event not only jeopardizes their position, but also exposes the internal cracks of a community that, on the surface, seemed perfect.
Although the assassination of the president is the initial core of the plot, Paradise delves into the lives of its protagonists, revealing their secrets through flashbacks and narrative twists that, although effective, can sometimes seem excessive. This structure allows you to explore the connection between the characters and the role they play in the general plot of the mystery. The relationships between the protagonists add layers of complexity that transcend the main case, offering multiple lines of interest.
The series combines elements of political thriller, drama and mystery, building a narrative that reflects on power, secrets and human dynamics. Although some questions remain unresolved, the performances of Sterling K. Brown, James Marsden and Julianne Nicholson manage to provide solidity to the characters, while the plot maintains interest with a balance between tension and intrigue.
