The official presentation was in charge of Úrsula LeónMinister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, and the Ambassador of Peru in Spain, Luis Ibericowho highlighted the importance of this initiative as a bridge between the past and the present, as well as a tool to promote sustainable tourism in local communities.
A unique heritage in the world
In her speech, Minister León expressed her enthusiasm for sharing this jewel of Peruvian cultural heritage with the world:
“The Andean Baroque route is much more than a tourist tour. It is an integral experience that combines art, history and spirituality, showing the world the wealth and cultural heritage of Peru.”
This route includes four emblematic temples: The Church of the Society of Jesuslocated in the Plaza de Armas del Cusco, and the churches of Andahuaylillas, Huaro and Canincuncain the South Valley. These buildings are witnesses of the fusion of Andean and European traditions that gave rise to the Andean Baroque, an artistic manifestation that reflects both resistance and cultural integration.
The minister also highlighted the positive impact of the route in nearby communities:
“Through this project we promote sustainable tourism and contribute directly to the economic and social development of local communities.”
Art as a testimony of cultural miscegenation
For his part, Ambassador Luis Iberico highlighted how the Andean baroque reflects the cultural miscegenation that arose after the arrival of the Spaniards to Cusco:
“Peru is heir to an ancient tradition that, by merging with European culture, gave rise to a unique artistic expression. This tour invites us to explore that wealth already rediscover the soul of our country.”
The diplomat stressed that the route not only exalts the architectural magnificence of the temples, but also invites you to contemplate the Andean landscapes that surround them and immerse themselves in the human stories that have shaped them over the centuries.
