TikTok announced this Sunday (01/19/2025) that it is “in the process of restoring the service” of the platform in the United States, just hours after suspending it to comply with a law approved by Congress, and after a message from President-elect Donald Trump which announced that it will postpone the entry into force of the rule.
In a message published on the social network Its Chinese owners did not sell their subsidiary in the United States.
“As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the United States,” the group said.
After the disconnection of TikTok, Trump announced that when he takes office this Monday he will suspend the questioned law and proposed that the application “be 50% owned by a joint company.”
The rule voted by Congress in 2024 came into effect this Sunday and TikTok stopped working in the United States, making the short video platform no longer accessible to more than 170 million users.
The law, however, includes a clause that allows a 90-day deadline if the White House can show progress toward a viable agreement, although ByteDance, TikTok’s Chinese parent company, has so far rejected any sale.
Trump indicated that the executive order he will issue on Monday will extend the time for a ban. “That way we can reach an agreement,” he explained.
