Residents of states such as New York and New Jersey have for weeks reported flights of unidentified drones, a phenomenon that has raised concerns about possible foreign interference, as well as accusations of their alleged cover-up by the US government.
“We have not identified anything anomalous and do not consider that the activity to date presents a risk to national or public security in the civil airspace of New Jersey or other northeastern states,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a joint statement. the Department of Defense, the federal police FBI and the US aeronautical supervisory Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“After closely examining technical data and citizen suggestions, we assess that sightings to date include a mix of legal commercial drones, hobbyist-owned drones, and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and helicopters. and stars mistakenly reported as drones,” they said.
Senior US officials previously denied the possibility of any foreign interference, including unproven claims that the drones were launched by an Iranian or Chinese “mothership” from the sea.
However, video footage of recent mysterious aerial sightings continued to saturate social media, with cases reported in New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia.
