An encounter with the sacred and the profane in the paradise of the artist David Escobar

Bogotá Sketch Gallery opens its doors to “even at night”, David Felipe Escobar’s first individual exhibition, an artist whose work investigates the tension between violence, desire and the divine. The sample opens on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 7:00 pm in San Felipe Creative District and promises an immersive experience where the sacred and the profane are in a provocative visual dialogue.

Escobar, born in Bogotá and based between New York and his hometown, has built an artistic language that challenges the limits between beauty, transgression and spirituality. His work is based on the pornographic image, the symbology of religious art and the Internet as tools to explore the relationship between flesh and spirit. In this exhibition, the viewer will encounter vibrant and ethereal pieces in which the artist uses unconventional materials such as glitter, body fluids, earth and silk, creating compositions that seem to float in space.

“My practice is about creating images of what I imagine is paradise, which allow us to restore ourselves in it, to those who have been denied for our condition of sexual dissent”comments the artist. His work, loaded with queer symbolism and an aesthetic that oscillates between the celestial and the carnal, invites you to question conventions about the forbidden and the divine.

Why go see the exhibition?

“Even if it is night” is not only an art sample, but an experience that challenges perceptions about beauty, spirituality and sexuality. The exhibition offers a raw look and at the time poetic on the relationship between the body and the divine, presenting pieces that combine unusual materials with a strong symbolic load. For those who seek art that causes reflection and deep emotions, this is a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in an aesthetic universe that transcends the conventional and generates a personal dialogue with the spectator.

In addition to this exhibition, Escobar has presented his work in London, New York, Bogotá and Lima, and has participated in artistic residences in Colombia and Mexico. With “even at night”, the artist continues his image exploration as a space for confrontation and redemption. An invitation to immerse yourself in a proposal as disturbing as sublime.
